Razor sharp sustainability

Do you buy a new plastic razor or razor head every few months? No need.

The Environmental Protection Agency estimates that around 2 billion disposable razors are thrown away every year in the United States. That ranks razors among the most wasteful product in American bathrooms. BUT have no fear, this one is a simple fix - there are many different ways that you can avoid this at home.

For starters, you can make sure that if you have to purchase disposable razors, they come from recycled materials. Some brands, such as Schick and Preserve, produce some of their razors from recycled products. Most brands however don't have a buy-back or return scheme, so at the end of the day that razor you're using is going to end up in the landfill at the end of its life anyway.

If you're up for it, its even better to avoid using a disposable razor all together. There are TONS of brands that make fabulous safety razors where all you have to replace is the razor blade itself (into a safe container, of course) every few months. This is not only more environmentally friendly but is also much cheaper in the long run than purchasing a new razor, or even a pack of razor heads (which usually also come in a ridiculous amount of hard plastic packaging). I'm really enjoying my Bambaw safety razor with a sustainable bamboo handle. The razors are double sided so they last longer, its a better shave, and you feel better about your impact on the planet - whats not to love?

Or, go full wild thing and DON'T SHAVE AT ALL! Let it all grow out and be free!
